To glorify God and enjoy Him forever! Man’s chief end. Something that we as St. Andrews Hymns strongly believe. Our music group has worked hard to glorify our Father during Sunday services for the last 10 years, where we share both traditional and more contemporary music with our congregation. We have been strongly influenced by music from churches and RUF groups in Nashville, Birmingham, New York City and elsewhere and have joined that wonderful movement of putting new tunes to older hymns that are so rich in theology and truth. St. Andrews Hymns was born out of this practice. Musicians and singers from our congregation whose “day jobs” range from student, to stay-at-home-moms, to bankers, computer programmers (nerds), real estate brokers and physicians have played together now for a number of years sharing that gift of music with friends, family and anyone who finds these songs helpful or inspiring.
In 2012 we released an album of old hymn texts paired with new tunes called Safely Home. Since the completion that first album, we knew we wanted to have the chance to create an album together again. Fast forward to 2014, and as individuals began to bring songs to the group the crafting of new music was underway. We met. We talked. We practiced. And, finally, we set aside 10 days from the busyness of life and we recorded. Just like that, our second album, Sweet Comforter, took shape. It has been both our privilege and blessing to be able to record these songs in order to provide a source of sacred and worshipful music “between the Sundays”.
